Check the child sizes against the sleepwear rule. This is covered in full in the next section. Short version: the label on the child sizes tells you something the label on the adult sizes does not.

There is one more exemption worth knowing if you are buying for a first Christmas. Section 1615.1(c) exempts garments sized nine months or smaller, which is why baby sets are sold under different rules from toddler sets.
What to do with all this: when you order the child sizes in a matching family set, read the label. If it does not say flame resistant, the garment is either relying on the tight fitting exemption or is being sold as loungewear rather than as sleepwear.

Usually, but not always. Winging Day, Lazy One and The Children’s Place kids sets are all described in customer feedback as running small, sometimes by one or two sizes. Hudson Baby is described as running large.
Because the sets in a family order come from one brand but cover very different body shapes, order from that brand’s own size chart rather than from the size you normally take.
Are cotton Christmas pajamas safe for toddlers?
In the US, children’s sleepwear in sizes 0 through 6X must be either flame resistant or tight fitting under 16 CFR Part 1615, and garments sized nine months or smaller are exempt.
A loose cotton set in a child size is only legal as sleepwear if it is flame resistant, so read the label rather than assuming. I have not tested any set in this guide for compliance.
How should I wash them so they last?
Shrinkage after a warm wash is the second most common complaint across these listings, after sizing. Wash cold and either tumble dry low or line dry. If you buy flame resistant children’s sleepwear, follow its care label exactly rather than applying a general rule.
Which of these sets come in a dog size?
Three of them: Lazy One Matching Holiday Pajamas, Lazy One Matching Christmas Pajamas and Lazy One Flapjacks. Measure your dog’s chest and back length and check that brand’s pet chart, because pet sizes are not comparable between brands.
When do I need to order to get them before Christmas?
Shipping cutoffs are set by the retailer and the carrier and they change every year, so check the cutoff posted on the listing rather than trusting last year’s date.
As a planning rule, matching sets are the item most likely to sell out in one specific size, so ordering in the first half of December leaves you room to reorder if something turns up wrong.
